THE BEAUTIFUL port city of Singapore has a fascinating culture, which has contributed to its status as a UNESCO Creative City of Design. But we still have some way to go in reaching ‘design capital’ status like Paris or Berlin, Sydney or Tokyo. The journey getting there is exciting, stumbling, humbling and exhilarating.

In this issue of Feast and Form there is some focus on Norway and Norwegian designers.  I’ve always been fascinated by this Nordic country – drawn inexplicably to a place I have never even set foot in. Then recently my brother does a DNA test and discovers that we have Norwegian blood. It goes way, way, way, way, way back to medieval times when we were builders and farmers. This explains a lot of things. So here, I pay homage to my ancestors in Norway and to my country of my birth, Singapore.

Food, architecture and design are my favourite topics to write about.
